Another Starting Lineup

Note---- i was going to send this out before the game Monday ... But I had some travel woes (read: waiting out a bomb situation at detroit metro airport, changing airplanes more than we thought, and arriving in key west at midnight...12 hours later than expected...now it's time to relax

This is not a joke, it's Opening Day!!! Wait, the Tigers are opening in Minnesota?  Isn't going to be like 15 degrees there?  This is a joke, Minnesota, snow, ice, penguins, ice?  Guess not.

Many people have the Tigers winning 95+ games this season,  World Series favorite. And it all starts today, in chilly Minnesota.

At least they will end the season with a three game clip in Miami!!!

Leading off....Austin Jackson...developed into a nice leadoff option...should bode well with the addition of a career hitter behind him

The missing link, No.2 Hitter.....Torrii Hunter....so many times the tigers lacked a consistent no.2 hitter ... Raburn didn't work nor infante nor boesch ... Well no one really since polanco...

Mr. Triple Crown, MVP in the D....Miguel Cabrera...enough said...should have a great year with all the pieces around him

The Big Bopper, Prince Fielder...better numbers for sure...

Five Spot, Victor Martinez, the phrase we kept saying in 2012 was "and we get vmart back next year " he may be the final piece to have a special year

Six - Jhonny Peralta, everybody is dogging jhonny like we need to get Stephen drew or another shortstop upgrade... He will get er done

No more automatic outs here...for so long with Adam Everett , Inge , laird etc we had no offense at the bottom... These guys are going to keep the bats swinging

Seven - Andy Dirks or Tui or Don Kelly (for now) if there is a weakness it's here...these guys may just be stopgaps until the kids are ready on the farm

Eight - Alex Avila, love this guy . A true pro...does a lot in the community and just grinds away ... Stay healthy my man

Nine Omar Infante... Great add last year ... The prodigal infielder returned to solidify a position the tigers struggled to fill since placido left for Philly

Play ball

Oh yeah, and this guy is slinging the pill on the hill, How about hitting a fastball his fastball in the cool air?

PLAY BALL!!!

Just what the Doctor Ordered...

Doc Holoday that is.  A couple weeks ago the Doc opened up his blog and cards other than Red Sox to the blog-o-sphere for some distribution.  All of this collecting had caught up with him and he needed space for those red stockings and wanted to add some new trade partners.

Give me all your Tigers!!!!

As you know, Tigers are in high demand so Dennis of Too Many Verlanders and I split to pot.

Here are some highlights....

Nice colorful card, why do I always fall for the prospects?

The $200M dollar man, can you have Too Many Verlanders?

To the Moon!!!

There was more, a lot more!  This was such a great idea that Dennis and I have a trade cookin' and I am sorting through my collection to hopefully have a similar deal come summer.  What a huge help in building my collection and adding more trading friends.  Thank you Doc!!!

Sunday Night Baseball tonight, it cannot be real! Play Ball!!!

I am signing off until Thursday, Mrs. Hot Corner and I are heading to Key West, HOORAY!

Keep it Hot on the Corner, pat.

Legend of Darnell Coles

Sweet, Bruce Fields, Rated Rookie card!!! Oh, wait, that's Darnell Coles....

Fields kid, Daniel is moving up the ranks in the Tigers system....Bruce (A Lansing native) has been a hitting coach for many teams, including Detroit, now with Cleveland.

Which team had the first infield to hit for 20 HRs?  The 1986 Detroit Tigers, of course, well name them....

First Base --- Darrell Evans 29 HRS

Second Base --- Lou Whitaker --- 20 HRs

Shortstop --- Alan Trammell --- 21 HRs

Third ---  Freakin' Darnell Coles --- 20 HRs
straight out of Dwight Eisenhower HS

Coles played for 11 teams in his career bouncing between Detroit and Seattle on three separate occasions.

If only for a trivia question, he is a legend and he kept it Hot on the Corner, pat.

My first card show in 25 yrs.

Headed down the road this morning to scope out a card show.  Now I cannot think in the last 25 years attending a card show.  I've written before my dad used to take me to St. Gerard in Lansing for John Smoltz show early in his career, so to maintain the integrity of the post let's say 1988 (wait, Smoltzie's rookie Topps was 1989, forget it)

I was pretty pumped to say the least, not really what to expect, the Beckett said about 50T.

It was not 50T.  My so immediatley flocked to the NASCAR table and we got two for $10.

The specific goal of the trip was to get Tigers team sets, and I netted some 2007 and 2008  A&G, 2007 Topps Red, 2012 Gypsey Queen with SPs and inserts.

Not too bad for me, as always... you hope for more people, more dealers, more options.

HOLY SH!T, little did I notice, I grabbed the 1/1 Gary Sheffield, Perez Original Sketches

Opening Day is happening soon!!!

Relic Days

I have been in a relic buying mode.  I am not sure if it is supply or demand but I am sure filling the need.

Already wrote about that nice hand numbered /99 Max Scherzer I picked up at the LCS last week.

Won a couple of Alan Trammell Autos and Relics this week.

I didn't realize this bat was #d 15/115!!! Slick!!

Missed out on a lower number Alan Trammell Auto, but this one was a little cheaper and not too much higher than the other.

My new found Red Sox friend, Matt over at DocHoloday.com sent these relics over.  Who doesn't need a little Fu Te Ni in their life?

Jaybarker hooked me up again with some regulars and some Relic action, I am sure glad I found this guy on the web!!!  Thanks again man!

Opening Day is right around the corner, a little warmer today in Michigan...

4,443 - 4,444 - 4,445

It never stops surprising me the generosity out in the blog-o-sphere.

Paul over at Wrigley Wax reached out to me earlier in the week and wanted to help me get closer to 6,000.

Nothing expected in return, however, I am sure I will be able to grab some Cubbies and send them his way. He also lives in Michigan so we were able to swap some LCS spots to scope out.

Thanks Paul!!!

What a nice group, slick cards.  Lolich the most underrated pitcher in Tigers history.  Nice to add the Cash and Freehan, not many left in the team set needs in these collections.

4,441 Tigers on the Wall

I was sad to hear that the oldest living Tiger, Virgil Trucks passed away Sunday.  He threw two no-hitters during the 1952 season (a glimmer in an otherwise dismal, three digit loss season for the Tigers) and came back from the war to win Game 2 of the World Series in 1945 to help the Tigers defeat the Cubs.  The great Ted Williams said Trucks was tougher to hit against then Bob Feller, relieved that Tigers had traded Trucks to the National League.  I have absolutely zero of his cards, so I will start keeping an eye out.

Another explosion in the mailbox this week!  A couple hundred more Tigers to add to the collection, at this pace we will clear 6,000 by the end of spring!!!  A couple more team sets completed, moving right along.

A whole lot of people contributed to this week, you know who you are, I simply cannot keep up with all the cards piling up on my desk and I am not helping matters by impulsive searching for auction deals on the bay.

A nice auction win this week included 23 1959 Topps Tigers in pretty decent shape, some well loved, but these are Tigers, how can they not be well loved.  A couple highlights here...

Closing in on this team set that includes Al Kaline, clutch!

Some cards that I have are sometimes difficult to find on the tradingcardDB.com.  Mostly because the team hasn't been assigned to the player.  So the number of Tigers at times grows a little faster each week.  Love the site, use their service, it's awesome

Well with all that Mach Madness and cold weather out there grab some cards and a binder or some top loaders and keep warm enjoying those cards because Opening Day is right around the CORNER!!

Just Another Post...

Just another day on the corner, collecting Tigers.

Got to catch the Tigers on TV after work getting a victory over the Marlins.

Headed on over to the LCS to get some supplies and Rick just had to talk me into going through some of boxes of singles, and wound up walking out with some loot like this Max Scherzer HN /99

Ryan of O No! wrote a nice trade eval, along with Kaz over at This Way to the ClubHouse with Show & Tell.  It was nice to hear that I was able to help Robert of $30 Week Habit with a set completion.  He also sent me some cards this week that require an upcoming post.  THANKS A TON GUYS!

A load of Tigers from the bay came in to make four team sets of  '13 Heritage.  I am in need of some Papa Grande singles if you have any, lets do a PWE trade!!!

I got a huge pile of Tigers from Matt over at DocHoloday.com  which I will have to share in another post.  Huge, awesome, slick, all the descriptors.  What a great day!

Another fellow blogger Paul at Wrigley Wax  reached out to offer up some 1970s Tigers, nice!  We'll get a nice trade going, brother!

Oh, and this is my 100th post, just another day...

What I am Working On...

So I have reached a point where I have bought enough packs, rack packs, re-packs --- where I need to start sorting and disperse. Sparked by the post by DocHoloday.com

Off to the LCS for two 3,000 count boxes to fill up and sort by team.

Eventually, the big goal is to have my own table at a local festival this summer.

Call me crazy, but I think I may want to try and change over to a dealer (if not just for a day) and try my hand and have some fun.

So what should I have....dime boxes, quarter boxes, dollar boxes, team sets, packs, older, newer, ...????

What makes a great table???

Already beginning to work on a variety (because not everyone just collects Tigers)

In the end, it will be fun trying this new thing.

Why not?

Where did you come from?

I got a PWE Monday with an unfamiliar address ---- Hazel Green, Alabama

So I wrote up this post, then duh, Jaybarker sent these to me....

Then I had forgotten to publish another post, that is here Jaybarker to the Rescue

Thanks for the Tigers, great adds!!!  However, I think I am starting to get the PWE Bomb treatment.

4,221 Tigers on the Wall

Holy Smokes, almost half way to the goal of 6,000 Tigers by October, looking like we're going to make it.

Plenty of slick stuff added this week, I won 250+ cards on the bay that met a ton of my needs to boost the numbers.

These courtesy of Robert over at $30 A Week Habit...

Trammell of the Week: 1986 O-Pee-Chee....186 Total Cards, 200 is looming soon!  Almost half-way (47%) of major release cards of All-Trammells

I did get a PWE today from Hazel Green, AL, no idea who sent it, please let me know so I can send something back.
