Heritage Highlights & Surprise PWE

Surprises are nice, not many in life these days...met my wife, had my two kids, did the birthday party thing.

and how much disappointment can I endure this week?

So after tearing through 8 retail jumbo packs and a hobby box and a half, I have decided to send out some PWE surprises to get through all the remaining winter and kick my serious anxiety awaiting baseball season.

My hits were all Bravos (really? 3 in the same box)

My other pulls

Cards I didn't Have

Two bloggers sent me wonderful packages this week.

Wes of JayBarker's Junk sent an unexpected load of Tigers, while a new trade partner Tonyof OFF HIATUS BASEBALL helped me finish off my 1984 & 1985 Topps sets.

Here's the haul of 1984

1985 set

...there are just a handful of cards left, check out my want-list to finish the deal!

Wes sent these great Tigers....there will be more, my internet is sllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwww, today.

I also managed to get some retail jumbo and hobby packs of Hertiage that got a start on the set ( I haven't officially decided whether I want to build 14 Heritage yet....)

I hear birds singing this morning, must mean spring, and spring means baseball.

A Matter of Time

As most of you know, or can tell --- I am a huge Trammell fan.

I have sung #3's praises for HOF candidacy, held my tongue on Sheffield & Kinsler donning his number, and continued to acquire pieces of his career along the way.

So the other day, I looked at the counter, and it is only a matter of time before Miguel Cabrera passes Trammell on the All-Time player collection list.

1. Trammell 259
2. Cabrera 247
3. Verlander 4.192
C.Fielder 182

I will splurge soon on SportsLots for the few remaining cards out there, but sooner or later, My ultimate fan favorite will be surpassed by the best player of my generation.

Nothing to be sad about at all, considering both players are fortunate enough to suit up for my favorite team and considering the success the Tigers have had since 2006, forgetting the misery of 1990-2005...nothing to be sad about at all.

Just change.  And as they say, change is the only constant in life.

All Good Things...

...Come to an end.

I went grocery shopping this morning at our local [mega] store --- Meijer's --- and swung by the "collectible cards" area.  Since the new year, the area has changed considerably from about a 5x5 display to about 3x5....to today, a single column of 5 total 2014 Topps rack packs, the rest shipped up front to two end caps near the 40 possible lanes to check out (with only 5 open, but that is another thing)  Is this a sign of things to come?

I am not sure this is a bad thing at all, just that cardboard may no longer be profitable for the one stop shop any longer.  If anything, I will have to support my LCS rather than the big box store.

I was able to scrounge up some 2010 Topps in the hopes of pulling a couple of Cobb's.

Success!

Baseball Can't Come Soon Enough!

Tigers on the Wall: 7,852

The high school wrestling season is now over and I can become a real person again.  Spending some time on my hobbies and all kinds of time with my family.

This blog has been woefully neglected in the last few months and will hopefully keep the blog-0-sphere updated with all things relevant to the Hot Corner.

Another 100 Tigers added this month, steadily creeping toward 9.000 --- it's going to take a greater effort to hit that before the end of 2014.

Team sets: February saw the completion of three team sets courtesy of the bay.

2014 Topps Atomic Red Series 1 - I know others are sick and tired of all the parallel chase, these ones grew on me and pulled the plug to get the first installment.

2014 Donruss - I was a bit jazzed for the return of Donruss, but at some point I lose interest with the product that has no official team license.

2011 Topps Pro Debut - This set had been sitting in my watch list for many months and I finally pulled the trigger, lots of prospects, and most of them with other teams (Brantly, Garcia, Turner)

Trammell Gem 10: Zero this month, need to get two for March!

Finally, some SP action -

Hopefully Spring will arrive soon, the weather is too cold and the selection of TV choices are slim.

Baseball, be here!

The Finest of Backstops!

My man Marcus of All the Way to the Backstop, sent me a slick PWE

Marcus lives in Texas (lucky) and loves the Padres (unlucky), we also share in the profession of education (most excellent!)
