Tigers on the Wall: Nearing 10,000

Anybody there?

I have been quite a recluse over the last six months.  Once the school year hit it has been non-stop at my house.

Let's Review:  Assistant Principal at a Middle School, two kids, Varsity wrestling coach, T-Ball coach, baseball card collector, avid 2x3 Hero blog reader, sold my house in 20 minutes ---- not much time to plunk down my thoughts on collecting.
Hot Corner Pat on the left, our Heavyweight won the State Finals this season!

I have never been much of a writer, so this in a way is an exercise in personal development.

Regardless, collecting Tigers has continued.  Steadily moving toward the 10K mark, the goal was to hit that by the end of April, now standing at 9.984 with Bowman master team set on the way and some other eBay and Sportlots to be arriving shortly.

Night Owl sent me a surprise mailer, he warned of some shiny enclosed.

Here are some highlights from the Jedi at 2x3 Heroes

Can you believe this guy had dinner with Kate Upton after he was done with his rehab work in Chicago AND posted a picture of it on twitter?  The audacity!

To be honest, they are probably a combination of both generous offerings towards the cause.

Thanks!

TOW: And One More makes 8,100

Tigers on the Wall is only a couple days late,

I am starting to get more organized with checklists and providing some perspective & direction of acquiring more team sets.  Right now I need to average about 4 cards a day to get to 9,000 by the end of 2014

But less about me and more about cards.

Jedi Jeff, hooked me up with this 1990 Starline Long John Silver Alan Trammell, a forty card set provided in the era of mass production (that is what the hell this oddball is, Jeff!)

A nice '13 mini sent by the 2x3 Jedi

It finally happened this last month, Cabrera eclipsed Trammell in my all-time player collection, and he leads at about 270 to 261, but Trammell for sure is my All-Time Tiger.

My LCS just got in a 1962 team set, so I am inching closer to this by adding these three.

That Koplitz is one photo-shopped mess.

Pull of the month - I am down to six cards on my '14 Heritage base set, so why would I splurge on any more packs of the grubby set?  Cause I love rippin' packs.  So I ripped four blister packs from Target and gained a couple for the set but picked up the Black parallel Scherzer and....

JV is the ace of my fantasy team too, so very fitting to get this hit!

Team sets completed this month: completely cheating --- I have been taking advantage of the master sets available on the bay with all this seasons product coming out.
  • 2014 Gypsy Queen
  • 2014 Topps Opening Day
  • 2014 Topps Opening Day Blue
  • 2014 Topps American League All-Stars
  • 2104 Bowman
  • 1999 Topps Traded (completed)
How bad is the AL Central?

Tigers on the Wall: 7,852

The high school wrestling season is now over and I can become a real person again.  Spending some time on my hobbies and all kinds of time with my family.

This blog has been woefully neglected in the last few months and will hopefully keep the blog-0-sphere updated with all things relevant to the Hot Corner.

Another 100 Tigers added this month, steadily creeping toward 9.000 --- it's going to take a greater effort to hit that before the end of 2014.

Team sets: February saw the completion of three team sets courtesy of the bay.

2014 Topps Atomic Red Series 1 - I know others are sick and tired of all the parallel chase, these ones grew on me and pulled the plug to get the first installment.

2014 Donruss - I was a bit jazzed for the return of Donruss, but at some point I lose interest with the product that has no official team license.

2011 Topps Pro Debut - This set had been sitting in my watch list for many months and I finally pulled the trigger, lots of prospects, and most of them with other teams (Brantly, Garcia, Turner)

Trammell Gem 10: Zero this month, need to get two for March!

Finally, some SP action -

Hopefully Spring will arrive soon, the weather is too cold and the selection of TV choices are slim.

Baseball, be here!

Tigers on the Wall: 7,755

Over the course of this blog's history I have kept track of how many Tigers are added monthly.

To date (as the title suggests) the Hot Corner, now holds 7,755 --- adding a little more than 100 this month.

I am so looking forward to this season of collecting, with Donruss hitting the shelves again, Heritage.  Most of my collecting centers around team collecting and can usually be accomplished in one fell swoop "on the bay", but this anticipation may have me looking forward to better weather and summer baseball.

Team Set of the month was the 2004 Fleer Greats of the Game - inspired by Dan at It's Like Having my Own Cardshop

The Trammel Gem 10 collection got off to a perfect start with these two:

Here are some other cards that didn't make the monthly headlines.

ReCount: 7,649

Did you ever see Mr 3,000?

The whole gig is Bernie Mac had 3,000 hits, allegedly, upon a recount, he was somewhat short and returns the bigs to hit the immortal hit threshold.  It's worth a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Cards featured are more highlights from Johnny's Trading Spot

How it relates to the Hot Corner, is that my database deceived me, I was using an inflated number for my Tigers on the Wall, I was about 100 shy, I had some dupes in there, counting my flagship sets and teams set twice.

So here we are on the edge of 2013, tipping in to 2014 and we're sitting on 7,649 Tigers on the Wall.

The unofficial blog team standings

14kPhillies ....Phillies......... 16,000+
Night Owl ....Dodgers........Too Many to Count
Wrigley Wax ...Cubs..........11.947
Hot Corner...Tigers..... 7, 649

I am sure I forgot someone ahead of me.

This collecting year I was able to double my collection fairly easily, now it's getting tough to keep up with that early pace.  We'll see if I crack 10,000 by the end of 2014 (surely chasing parallel sets helps)
